Street Life – By Dante Orange
Concept Design Poster
AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IS A COLLECTOR’S EDITION COPY OF MY SCREENPLAY “STREET LIFE” BASED ON MY 2012 SHORT FILM OF THE SAME NAME, STARRING KAREEM SPANN AND JOSHUA GLAZE. NOT ONLY IS THIS A REMAKE OF THAT VIDEO, IT IS PARTIALLY INSPIRED BY THE CURRENT OPPRESSION AND VIOLENCE OCCURING IN CHICAGO.
THE STORY:In spirit of classic films such as “Cooley High” (1975), “Boyz in the Hood” (1991), and “ATL” (2006),
This urban drama with elements of humor and romance set in the Southside of Chicago, chronicles the lives of three close friends growing up together ‘in the ‘hood’, over the course of one school year. Each of the boys are looking for a solution to the tough lives they face. Reggie, the Main character of the story, hopes to attend college and help his struggling single mother, all the while maintaining a romantic relationship with a gorgeous schoolmate, and dealing with harassment from a nefarious gangbanger. Coming from a troubled household, his best friend Tyshawn only has himself to rely on with no sense of direction, resulting in low self-esteem and a lack of ambition. Between these two is Chris, a good-natured, mild-mannered, savant whose kind and unique personality balances out the group. However, Reggie soon becomes enticed with the idea of making fast money and decides to end his financial worries by selling drugs, along with Tyshawn. Though he mainly did it just to make money to survive, as time goes on, Reggie begins to wonder if this is really the answer to his problems as things begin to fall apart, whereas Tyshawn gets deeper and deeper in the game, feeling as though he has no other options. Now it is up to the boys to find the strength of character to do what is right and take responsibility for their actions. Will they do the right thing and get out while they still have the chance?, or will they continue down the wrong road living the STREET LIFE?

WHY DID I WRITE THIS STORY?:
My goal is to create a motion picture that will not only entertain its target demographic (and the general public as a whole), but to perhaps portray how rough life can be for youth who have to deal with such harsh circumstances. I want this film to help put an end to all this senseless violence and teach the youth to not succumb to despair and be optimistic for a better day. The only major challenge as of now is finding a film distributor/production company willing to produce and distribute the film. My goal is to reach out to the urban market of cinema such as Screen Gems, CodeBlack Entertainment, and Mr. Tyler Perry.
